After Les Combes Grupp prevents a spin and loses speed. Wilhelm overtakes on the right side. Because Grupp is busy controlling his car, I think he didn't see Wilhelm entering his blind spot. Grupp is on the far left on the track. To make the next turn, a fast lefthander, Grupp moves a little to the right. He's about 20 km/h slower than the rest of the field. Olah benefits from the small space at the left to overtake Grupp, while Wilhelm is overtaking on the right side. So they are three wide: Olah, Grupp and Wilhelm. In the fast lefthander Olah stays left, allowing much room next to him. Grupp wants to make enough room for Olah and collides with Wilhelm, who is on the right of Grupp.
It's very hard to prevent a crash like this. We can recommend drivers who are slowed down by a near-spin to stay left and not to try to return to the racing line. But in Grupp's case his speed was high enough to allow returning to the racing line.

Wilhelm and Grupp are crashed and move in unpredictable directions. Alpen evades Wilhelm and then tries to evade Grupp, whose car is bouncing back from the fence towards the track. There's a collision between Alpen and Grupp.

1901 A Automatik 5:28 Claudio Callipo/Carsi Grelck
In the esses of Malmedy the hegdes are close to the track. Grelck goes wide in the 2nd turn of these esses and hits the left hedge. His left wheels are on the dirt while he drives on, and he loses much speed. There are dust clouds. The next turn is the 3rd of the esses, a lefthander. Callipo approaches and tries to overtake Grelck. He doesn't give much room. He steers towards the apex. Grelck can't escape to the left because of the hedge, and therefore the turn is too sharp for him. Callipo and Grelck collide at the apex. Both drivers tried to avoid this.
I think this crash was avoidable. Grelck needed more room. Callipo could have expected that, because the hegde is there. GPL is severe by calling this a crash. The crash only impacted Callipo.
