wieviel Dollar ist ein Flugzeugdia wert? | |
Hi,
Lest selbst:

Starting Bid 100.00
Final Bid:500.00 Dollar wohlgemerkt
Early this Morning, not only did ATR achieve a major milestone, but the entire slide hobby also achieved a major milestone. The above slide sold for $500.00 and it happened less than two hours after it was uploaded. It should be noted that this is one of only two slides in the world that have ever sold for $500 or over (the other slide sold for $501 but was not sold on ATR). To some, $500 may be a lot, to others, it's actually not. Consider this; this is a slide of an airplane that was taken out of the hangar on one afternoon, then put back in and stripped of its paint and only one person shot it in daylight. It is this scenario that typically commands the high prices, but usually the airplane is in the hangar and never comes out so no slides exist. As you read the below commentary, perhaps $500 is easier to comprehend...
THE VALUE OF SLIDES-
We know of very few people who decide one day that they will get into a full time business and the focus of that business is to sell slides; that is one difficult business to count on for consistent weekly pay. Typically, it is the hobby itself which draws people, it's the great feeling of shooting something hot, and it is the great times we share with friends at the airport or at our slide shows or conventions. Having said all that, a slide is a piece of original art with a limited production run and anything that is original and not mass produced (compared to say a particular stamp of which 10,000+ pieces are produced and distributed internationally to collectors) has value because it's sources are limited and as the slides are traded or sold, their rarity increases because once it's in people's collections, the odds are that it stays there. Many of us are familiar with the fact that some people are going "digital". While this does not help the slide hobby per say, it does mean that less photographers are shooting slides to support the hobby, which in our opinion increases the value of our slide collections even more. If there are many slide shooters, there are many slides, if there are less slide shooters, there are fewer slides to go around, placing a higher value on that decreased available quantity, it's just simple supply and demand. It is our belief that slides will continue to be sought after collectibles for years to come and our collections will continue to increase in value just like classic cars, paintings, fine wine, or anything that is produced in limited numbers and typically is more in demand with age and rarity. So an expensive slide today may be worth quite a bit more 15-20 or more years from now, just like today many of us reading this newsletter will pay top dollar for a nice slide of an American B720 taken in 1967 (just an example). This is all our opinion only, yours may differ or it may be the same, but it is incumbent on all of us who are in the hobby to continue to show our kids, friends or anyone who may be remotely interested how wonderful and rewarding it is to collect airline slides. One thing regarding Kodachrome; It is still the king of the hobby, but it has become quite evident in looking at the Varig that sold for $500, all the beautiful Hajj slides that command top dollar, some of the Vuelamex B717s, these are all Fuji slides and when the subject is right, even the hardcore Kodachrome guys will take Fuji. It is not unreasonable to think that perhaps one day Kodak will end Kodachrome production. We hope that never happens, but if it does, there is a great alternative in Fuji Provia 100F, that is what we plan on using should Kodachrome be put to rest, but we hope that does not happen any time soon. If you would like to continue this discussion on our exclusive ATR member forum you may do so here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/auctiontransportation/ -we would love to hear your opinions on the hobby which is so dear to us.
Thanks for your continued support and we hope you enjoy reading our newsletters (we are fairly certain that you do because we see who is signed up to read them and who is not)...
Best Regards,
ATR Team
